How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

Laser skin resurfacing uses a laser to remove skin layer by layer, revealing healthy, younger-looking skin underneath. The laser is very precise and targets the exact area you wish to treat. This yields predictable results and allows your specialists to be fully in control of your treatment. Only one treatment is needed to see results, but some patients repeat treatment after about four weeks for more noticeable results.

Laser facial resurfacing is great for both men and women. This treatment can treat a variety of skin conditions, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth
  • Acne scars
  • Sun spots
  • Uneven skin tone

Facial Resurfacing Procedure

First, you will come to our office and meet with one of our surgeons. We will talk about your goals for treatment as well as the need for any anesthesia for upcoming procedures. Prior to the resurfacing procedure, we often pretreat the skin to maximize results.

On the day of your resurfacing procedure, we will use local anesthesia to numb the area. We will direct the laser beam onto the skin, which will quickly vaporize layers of skin. Treatment for parts of the face can take as fast as 30 minutes, while the full face could take up to 2 hours.

There will be some redness after treatment, which can be concealed with makeup. Remember that laser skin resurfacing aims to improve areas of the skin, not fully correct or change areas entirely. Results will vary depending on your skin condition, the target area, and your age.
